About This Item

London: Collins, 1971. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. A VG copy (rubbed at the tips of the spine with softness - and a hint of fraying - at the spine corners only.; the top edge of the text block has a very shallow groove (hardly noticeable) and a few spots of foxing which have also penetrated into the book. No inscriptions. The first issue dustwrapper (with the advert for Charley to the rear panel) is about VG and is price-clipped with a few tears ranging from 0.5cm - 2.5cm, fraying at the corners and tips of the spine affecting the W and h of "When"and the rear panel flap is creased with a small piece (1cm x 2cm) missing at the top left-hand corner. Quite uncommon. Not the best copy in the World, but looks a bit better than it sounds. The basis for the German drama film from 2019 directed by Caroline Link. Photographs/scans available upon request.

Synopsis

Nine-year-old Anna was too busy with schoolwork and friends in 1933 to take much notice of Adolf Hitler's rise to power in her native Germany. But when her father is suddenly, unaccountably missing, and her family flees Berlin in secrecy, Anna is forced to learn the skills needed to be a refugee and finds she's much more resilient than she thought.192 pp.
