About This Item

Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1945. Hardcover. Very Good in brown and red boards in a Fair dust jacket that has chipping along the spine, and top of the front and back panel.. 4to 10 1/4" x 7 1/2." 140 pp. Second edition of the revised and expanded version of The Disappearing City, which was originally published in 1932. Inscribed and signed on the title page: "To Sally Jane Smith/on her graduation day/Frank Lloyd Wright." Original $4.00 price on top of front flap. When Democracy Builds was revised by Wright after he found himself agreeing with the very harsh criticism of the original edition. Here, Wright strikes at absurdities of centralization and its feudal economy. With persuasive brilliance he shows how we can build a real democracy which begins with the individual home and its acre.
