Mary Paley Marshall was an economist and one of the first women to take the Tripos examination in 1874, achieving top marks, but could not receive a degree on account of her gender. She also was one of the first five women to be admitted and study at Newnham College as part of Cambridge University. In 1875 she was the 25 year old economics lecturer at Newnham College. She had established herself financially as she was the first women lecturer at Cambridge University. She was stylish and known for wearing clothes made from the fashionable prints designed by the Pre-Raphaelites. In 1876 she married Alfred Marshall who had been her economics tutor. After her husband died in 1924, Mary became Honorary Librarian of The Marshall Library of Economics at Cambridge. This book of her reminiscences was published posthumously 3 years after her death. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 54 pages. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Previous owner's name ink-stamped to 'dedication' page.
