Inside pages are clean and unmarked. Dustjacket has a little bit of edge wear and faint soil. A biography of Joseph Scriven, an Irish immigrant to Canada who lived at Rice Lake, Bewdley, Ontario and in Port Hope, Ontario from the 1850's until his mysterious death in 1886. Scriven wrote the words to the famous hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" in 1855, as a poem for his ailing mother, as well as other hymns and poetry, some of which are included. Also includes a section on four monuments raised to honour Scriven and his famous hymn. .
