Period full sheepskin, title in gilt over black morocco label. Notable rubbing to spine and covers. Solid text block, hinges stable. Free of marks or notations. (BAL 15715). James Kirke Paulding (1778-1860) was an American writer and politician during the early 19th century. Born in New York, Paulding initially pursued a career in law before transitioning to literature. He co-authored several popular works with Washington Irving, including "Salmagundi" and "Knickerbocker's History of New York." Paulding held various government positions, including Secretary of the Navy under President Martin Van Buren.
