SIGNED. 341pp. Folio [35 cm] Gray cloth with title gilt stamped on the backstrip and an illustration of Ashley in red on the front board. Map at the rear. Minor foxing to the fore-edge of the text block; light staining to the upper extremities of the front endpaper and terminal leaves, and along the fold of the large fold-out map at the rear; previous owner's bookplate and address label on the front pastedown. May require extra postage due to weight. Designed and printed by Lawton Kennedy, San Francisco.
Morgan considered this volume, the fruit of two decades of research, his most important single historical work. It is primarily an edited compilation of primary sources relating to Ashley's Missouri Fur Company. Saunders 49.
