About This Item
London: Secker and Warburg, 1984. First U.K. Edition. First impression. Bound from American sheets. Octavo. Cloth-backed boards; dustjacket; 243pp. Mild evidence of use: a bit of dusting to edges of text block; private ownership name and ink shelf-number; corners slightly bumped; Very Good. In the original dustwrapper, unclipped (priced £9.95 at base of front flap), lightly rubbed and worn; VG+.
The somewhat uncommon British edition of this odd mid-career work, considered by some to be one of Handke's best - a blend of private journal, aphoristic social commentary, and memoir. Amid much controversy, due to his inexplicable support of Slobodan Milosevi following the Yugoslav Wars, Handke was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2019.
