About This Item

London: Michael Joseph, 1979. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8" by 5". None. A first edition of the novel by English science fiction writer, John Wyndham, published by his estate, ten years after his death. An uncommon first edition of the work, in original publisher's green cloth binding, with original unclipped dust wrapper. John Wyndham was an English writer of science fiction whose novels were often set using classical English surroundings or characters, to imply that the plots were plausible and could happen in our society. This particular work was published posthumously by his estate, 10 years after his death. The novel follows the events on a fictional island named Tanakuatua, which lies seemingly uninhabited in the Pacific Ocean. The story includes a sense of intrigue, as a wealthy benefactor finances a mysterious project to establish a utopian colony on this island. The novel is written from the viewpoint of one of those sent to investigate the island, Arnold Delgrange, who soon realises that they might not be the only inhabitants. In original publisher's green cloth binding with original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with very minor shelf wear. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Dust wrapper in lovely condition, with minor shelf wear and the occasional handling mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Near Fine
