Novel about a disparate group of people -- including a gangster, his mistress, a hypocritical minister, a "ruthless film magnate," a beautiful dancer, a composer, and others -- "trapped in a volcanic cave" on a tropical island, and "faced with imminent death." Published the previous year in England by William Heinemann Ltd. .
