About This Item
[n.p., 1860. Broadside lyric sheet, 7.5 x 4.45 in., double border, 8 stanzas with refrain, starting: "Hark! the trumpet calls to duty, / See, our glorious Flag's unfurl'd,/ The Stars and Stripes unite in beauty, / The pride and envy of the world." Fine. Likely a pirated modification of T. A. Becket's "The Pennsylvanian battle cry!" The refrain has been changed to be more pointed towards the south, ("So let the world jog on as it will" > "So let the South brag as it will" etc.) and an 8th stanza has been added: "Traitors think they now are exempt, / From our Country's revenue, / But they will pay a duty on hemp, / That will make them look rather blue." Likely UC Santa Barbara in OCLC, plus a digital copy credits MTSU as the source.
