Now housed in an attractive custom clamshell box of tan cloth covered boards, with a brown morocco label lettered in gilt. 88 pp. A very good copy and well preserved copy, a touch of light age mellowing, less than would be usually expected, rear wrapper and "About the Authors" leaf with a less than 1 inch tear with no loss and neatly repaired from the versos. FIRST EDITION AND PRINTING, THE DELICATE WRAPPERS WELL PRESERVED. Drawing its title from the famous Zola work on the Dreyfus Affair; the Alsop brothers trace out the Oppenheimer case, concluding it was the result of certain factions who only wanted him removed position of influence. “This strongly worded and solidly documented book is a defense of J. Robert Oppenheimer and an indictment of the government’s (present) security system.” In time, and due to the efforts of journalist such as the Alsops and many outraged members of the scientific community, Oppenheimer has come to be seen as a martyr to McCarthyism, an eclectic liberal who was unjustly attacked by warmongering enemies and the shift of scientific creativity from academia into the military.
