About This Item

Harper & Row, January 0001. First Edition. Hardcover. Collectible Very Good/Like New. 1st Edition / 1st Printing - In like new condition. Appears unread. Dust jacket in fine condition in archival mylar. . . . . . . . . Segundo Galilea is a Chilean theologian, and one of the founders of Liberation Theology. He has also written books such as The Beatitudes: To Evangelize as Jesus Did , Spirituality of Hope , etc. He wrote in the Introduction to this 1988 book, this is precisely the challenge facing us: to create a 'new' spirituality... capable of accepting and expressing itself in times of rapid social change. This challenge requires rereading the Gospel itself, recalling its values, and resituating them in a contemporary setting while at the same time discovering new values. Doing that will lead Christians to a renewed spirituality. He observes that Jesus did not place human happiness in opposition to gospel perfection... Christ promises us gospel happiness in the present time. (Pg. 50) He argues that poverty is not of value in itself; There is no greater Christianity in living in a poor house and neighborhood than in living in one less poor. He adds that those who voluntarily live among the poor as a witness know that, in relation to the poor that surround them, they are privileged.
