At first, the boys are bored and the girls are bossy, but they soon learn to enjoy each other's company and the quiet, peaceful days. One evening, they hear a strange noise and investigate, finding a group of boys playing with fire. The next day, the boys are gone and the girls find a dead animal. They start to worry, but their fears are unfounded. One night, after the adults have gone to bed, the girls hear a noise outside and go to investigate. They find a group of boys hiding in the bushes, and one of them is carrying a gun. The girls run back to the house and tell their father, who comes out and arrests the boys.; 8vo .
