About This Item

Galahad Books, 1975. Hardcover. Good/Fair. No marks or writing observed in text. Binding tight and square. DJ is poor with chips and small tears. From private collection, dust cover is in archival mylar. . . . . . . have read 5 books on Waterloo. Howarth's account of the British victory over Napoleon at Waterloo is written from the perspectives of actual individual soldiers (mostly British, but some French) who participated in the battle. Thus, instead of a broad (and boring) overview of the battle, you get to see only the bits and pieces of the battle that the soldiers themselves experienced. At times I wished for more detailed maps, or more information about what was going on elsewhere on the battlefield at the same time, but overall I think the author made the correct choice to focus on the individual soldiers, as his approach results in a very involving, and at times emotionally moving, story. I have now read this book 3 times; it's that good. -- Nebo Jones Family-owned bookshop in Steubenville, Ohio: BookMarx Bookstore. Books shipped within 24 hours.
