The British and Dresden editions were published before the American edition.Complete in three volumes.'The Water Witch' is an exciting historical fiction novel, following a group of sea smugglers in seventeenth century New York.Written anonymously by James Fenimore Cooper, an American author known for his fiction depicting colonist and Indigenous communities in America's early history.Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown of Volume I, and to the recto to the front endpapers of Volumes I and II, 'Balgownie'. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown of Volume I.Two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear of Volume I. In the original quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities, head of the spine of Volume I is lifting. Institutional label to the tail of the spines. Light discolouration and marks to the boards and spines. A little rubbing to the spine labels. Spines are a little faded. Hinges are starting a little but remain firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown of Volume I, and to the recto to the front endpapers of Volumes I and II. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown of Volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some odd spots and handling marks. Good
