About This Item

Pan Books Ltd, London and Sydney, 1974. First Edition. Softcover. Good Condition. Illustrator: Photographic. List of illustrations, list of maps, foreword by author, notes, bibliographies and index. The text is illustrated with two inserts, of 8 pages each. The text is also illustrated with two maps – with one map attached to the verso of the rear panel being a six page foldout map of Warsaw. Colour illustrated paperback (wraparound) binding with black coloured titles to the front panel and red and black coloured titles to the back strip. Between 1st August 1944 to the 2nd of October 1944 the citizens of Warsaw rose up against their Nazi oppressors. Vastly underequipped, the citizens and the Polish Secret Army kept the might of German artillery, planes and tanks at bay for 63 days. That the uprising failed, was no surprise, but the questions surrounding the uprising continue – ? Did the Russian army deliberately stand by and watch the Poles being crushed. ? Did the English and American powers that be, do all they could to help; and, ? How was the Secret Army organised and trained. These and more questions are answered in this book. The book belonged to a private library, and has the white sticker to the lower back strip edge and previous owners' rubberstamp to the top edge of the verso of the front panel and lower edge of the title page. Creasing of the book corners with a reading crease to the back strip. Rubbing and some handling marks to the book panels with original prices being obscured to the rear panel. Browning of the text block edges and panels. Fading to the back strip. First edition of the work in this format and binding, and/or set or series. Size: 12mo (standard paperback). 335, [1] pages,.
