About This Item

Chicago: Reilly & Lee, 1943. Good/Fair. Chicago: Reilly & Lee, 1943. First Edition. Signed by the author on front free endpaper with inscription "For Walter Albert, with my best wishes, Howard Browne, 6/21/91."

Octavo; 286pp. Price-clipped illustrated dust jacket with $1.00 stamp to front flap; book in red cloth with gilt lettering. Large dampstain affecting jacket, boards, and endpapers, but with just a bit of bleed into top margins of pages. Jacket shows a large section missing from top back panel, along with a number of chips and small tears along edges, though externally the jacket mainly seems rippled, with the more significant staining to the interior. Boards are otherwise lightly shelfworn, but sturdy and square. Pages open easily between a few gatherings, but binding is holding. Pages a bit toned but unmarked.

Debut novel by Browne, who served as editor for Amazing Stories and Fantastic Adventures before moving to write for Hollywood.
