Gilt-stamped brown clothbound portfolio containing 27 (11 x 13.5 inch) plates showing various architectural drawings exhibiting various perspectives, shadows, plans, geometric examples, drawing types. Remnants of one of three string ties closing the portfolio. Owner signature on inside front cover of portfolio (Hugh McLellan, May 15, 1896) A portfolio of architectural drawing exercises and examples which accompanied Wares pioneering architectural text: Modern Perspective: A Treatise Upon the Principles and Practice of Plane and Cylindrical Perspective. Ware was a practising architect and professor of architecture, and helped found Columbia Universitys School of Architecture. We believe previous owner Hugh McLellan was a student of Wares at Columbia and went on to combine a career in architecture with a sideline in fine press printing at Moorsfield Press in Champlain, New York. ; Oblong 4to 11" - 13" tall .
