Czech: "Pester, an officer in the British East India Company, arrived in the subcontinent in 1801, and saw service in the Mahratta Wars of the early nineteenth century. His diaries...reveal numerous military engagements and marches through India. While in cantonment near Bareilly, he enjoyed hunting buffalo, wild boar, and numerous deer species, but tiger shooting tended to be his preferred sport."
