About This Item
New York: Frederic A. Brady, Publisher, 1864. Hardcover. 312p., frontis cartoon (man writing at desk), preface, publisher's note, peculiar bookplate on pastedown, faint dampstain throughout with a touch of foxing, first edition in blind-pressed and gilt-decorated gray cloth boards, a poor copy: pervasive dust-soil, the gilt titlings and cover vignette but a memory, heavy wear to edges, corners, head and tail of spine, external fading and light staining &c within as noted. On a less disapproving note, the hinges are sound and handleable. Humorous writings related to Abraham Lincoln and the efforts of the North against the South. A measure how inrigued Americans were with their amazingly quotable president; most of the sketches here, presented as anecdotes and "verbatim" dialogue are made-up stuff, but in the spirit.
