London; Jonathan Cape, 1942., 1942. Hard Cover. FIRST EDITION with SIGNED postcard from the Author. Octavo, pp. 320. 2 captioned monochrome photographic plates of Whitman. Publishers' red cloth with gilt titles to spine. Postcard loosely inserted. Covers slightly bruised to edge, with spine lightly sunned, small tea-stain to top edge upper board, and ring mark and slight crease to lower. Mark to front pastedown from where postcard has become detached; very minor marks to endpapers and a little light foxing to textblock edge otherwise contents clean. A verey good copy overall. Critical biography of the American poet by the English writer and critic (1895-1965). The enclosed postcard is from Fausset to psychic medium Dora Head who "connected" with Whitman at seances and also photographed Whitman psychometrically, and the content refers to the recent publication of the book and descibed Head as "a friend of Walt".
