About This Item
Berkeley: election committee, 1967. Sticker. Unused bumper sticker with waxed paper backing intact, measures 14.5x4 inches, silkscreened in dark green and day-glo scarlet on buff stock. the gaudy-red "M" is slightly smudged, and there is a transverse crease-line between the U and M, in all other respects a well-preserved, very good copy. Rumford lost this election (he was running for his old Assembly seat) but was appointed to federal office (consumer protection). In 1948 Rumford was the first African American to hold elective office in Northern California, serving consecutive terms through 1966.
