Early bookplate of the German Society of Philadelphia. A translation of Ulloa's Relacion historica del viage a la America Meridional ... Madrid, 1743 recounting the French scientific expedition from the perspective of Ulloa, a Spanish sailor who accompanied them on the mission. "The end result was a fund of important scientific observations in various fields, as well as the knowledge that the earth was not perfectly spherical, but flattened at the poles" (Hill). Sabin 36873; this edition not in Hill, Pacific Voyages.
