About This Item

Edinburgh: William Blackwood and Sons, 1906. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6". None. A first edition of this scientific account to the Weddell Sea and the Establishment of a Meteorological Station in the South Orkneys. From the library of Professor Malvino Reischetto, the professor of Geography at Rio University. With his inscription to the title page dated 1911 and his many inscriptions.  A tipped in note states 'This copy owes its heavy foxing to a prolonged stay in a tropical climate and the scrawling annotations to the former owner, Prof Malvino Reischetto'. A complete copy of this first edition. With frontispiece, three maps, and multiple plates. In a plain publisher's cloth binding. This secondary variant appears uncommon and may possibly be for export editions. The Scotia expedition was led by William Spiers Bruce of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition. They sailed north on the SY Scotia and collected nearly 1000 stereographic glass plate negatives of photographs taken on the expedition. In a plain green publisher's cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional annotations from prior owner. Heavy spotting throughout, heavier to the first and last few pages. Very Good
