The third edition, 1810. following the Pittsburgh 1807 and London 1808 editions, and is the initial French version. Notably, it is the first to be in a foreign language and is distinguished by featuring the J.B. Tardieu map titled ""Carte pour servir au Voyage des Capes. Lewis et Clarke,"" the first published map mentioning the expedition and illustrating part of its route. Additionally, this French edition includes two letters from William Clark that were not included in other editions of Gass. The first, dated April 2, 1805, from Fort Mandan, is addressed to William Henry Harrison. The second, dated September 23, 1806, written upon his return, is addressed to his brother. The latter letter, separately listed in Wagner-Camp, had appeared in various publications before but is first published in book form in this edition. Front board detached, endpaper torn. Sheets are clean and unmarked, slight ripple, map has the slightest wear at edge. Binding not contemporary, books needs to be rebound or rebacked and repaired at hinge. Top edge gilt. Rear ads were not bound in. Will restore very nicely. Secure packaging for safe delivery.Dust jacket quality is not guaranteed.
