About This Item

1833 1ed Irish Talbot Voyage to CANADA Colonies Quebec MAPS Ships 3v French ed

In 1818, Irish immigrant Richard Talbot embarked on a voyage with other Irish settlers to establish a colony in Quebec, Canada. The colony was ultimately a success and his eldest son Edward Allen Talbot wrote an account of the voyage and colonization in Canada entitled 'Five Years Residence in the Canadas', first published in 1824.

This 1833 first French edition features impressive full-page engravings depicting scenes of ships, sea voyages, and folding maps. According to Larned,

"Talbot's accounts of the new settlements in the extreme west of the Province are among the earliest."

It should be noted that the third volume of this set is a partial translation of J.M. Duncan's 'Travels through part of the United States and Canada in 1818 and 1819'.
