Rome, Pietro Maria Heredia del Rio, Capitano Spagnuolo in ritiro" 1842. 14 pp, 1leaf. 2 full page plates. Cloth. Small 4to. "È traduzione di un' articolo del foglio periodico di Madrid intolato Il Cattolico dei 18. Settembre 1842. n. 932. contente la relazione di un viaggio da Cadice a Manila sulla Fregata Spagnuola la Sabina" page 14.

Very rare

Account of the trip in 1841 between Cádiz (Spain) and Manila on the Spanish frigate Sabina. Among the passangers there was a contingent of more of 30 priests. Among them was Fray Remigio, a Dominican missionary, and also Fray Francesco Zea of the Roman convent of Santa Sabina. At the end of the text, Zea corroborates the exactitude of Fray Remigio's account of the voyage.

The two engravings are of considerable interest. The first one, Septem angeli astantes ante dominu, represents the seven Archangels worshipping God with the Archangel Saint Michael in armour in the center. The second engraving, Illuminans tu mirabiliter a montibus alternis, also represents Saint Michael in armour with a sword in his hand protecting Spain represented in a map. This striking engraving is full of religious symbols, one of them Apostle Santiago charging on horse, that ensures protection to Spain and to those who depart from its shores, another vanquished devils.
