Literary Guild, New York, 1935, 8vo., 274p. First Literary Guild edition. Blind stamped boards, black & gilt stamping to spine. A few leaves have some marks (see last image) but overall book is at least Very Good+. Jacket has loss at spine cap, a 30mm tear (closed with interior tape) on the front head near fold, and other small tears and creasing. "Fill-in" backing at spine head/heel could be cut off if desired. Fading to spine. Wear along extremities. Author Richard A. Loederer serves not only as scribe & guide in this work, but also as illustrator (20 + frontispiece) as well as 'cartographer' (see map on endpapers. "The illustrations are the famous series of Haitian wood cuts which made a sensation when they were exhibited in Vienna and New York." Newspaper clipping(laid in) describes the 1937 Haitian revolt against President Stenio Vincent. Inv. # 62515 bds 2023
