The cover of this book has much wear. A binding was added later as well as pads for the corner's of the book. the previous owners names are written on the inside of the front cover and on the top of the third blank page. The pages are yellowing and tanning. The edges of most of the pages are worn. This is a rare book and dates 147 years old.."There are three books which ought to be found in every household - the Bible, an English dictionary, and a Bible dictionary. This book is in good condition. The cover has some light wear and the corners are definitely worn. The previous owner's name is written on the inside of the front cover and his seal is affixed to the front cover. The pages are clear of any markings crisp and white. Previous owner name neatly written on blank free endpapers and a name clipped from the top of the title pages, otherwise very good, bright and clean copies throughout. Early full tan calf bindings with raised bands to the spines. Compartments double gilt ruled. Red title labels, gilt. Some minor wear to the extremities but overall very good and attractive bindings. ---- Complete as published, these first two volumes of Stern's Sermons of Mr. Yorrick, published anonymously in 1760, were added to at a later date with another five volumes issued between 1766 and 1769.

John H Beadle was a member of the Mormon expedition across the United States to the American West. He made notes and reports on the excursion and ultimately published a fascinating work on every aspect of the trip. Beadle wrote 'The Undeveloped West' which turned out to be an autobiography of sorts, describing Beadle's time in Utah and his voyage westward. It includes accounts of time in Texas, Yosemite and California, and Nevada.
Beadle also includes numerous descriptions of Native American Indian tribes such as the Navajo and Mexicans, Aztec descendants, gold and silver mining, railroad construction, and the rise of Mormons in Utah.

A complete set of what must have been one of the most impressive bibliographical publications of 19th Century France - indeed Europe. Copiously illustrated with facsimiles and colour reproductions, (many of which are fold-out and impressively large) of remarkable manuscripts and bindings throughout history. In contemporary 1/4 calf with raised bands and blue labels at one stage this set must have been particularly eye-catching but sadly time has taken its toll somewhat. In various states of condition ranging from Good/VG to Fair only. Most with substantial off-setting in places, many tissue-guards missing from the plates.
