The second edition of Voices of the Night; The Seaside and the Fireside; and Other Poems by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. In the original publisher's cloth binding with decorative gilt to the front board and spine. The second edition, undated. Dated from the British Library copy through Jisc. Illustrated with engravings on wood throughout the text. From designs by Jane E. Benham, Birket Foster and more.  In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, very smart. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, resulting in some slight wear to the cloth of these areas. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with some occasional spotting. Very Good

Synopsis

Longfellow began publishing his poetry in 1839, including the collection Voices of the Night, his debut book of poetry. The bulk of Voices of the Night was translations, though he also included nine original poems and seven poems that he had written as a teenager. Ballads and Other Poems was published in 1841 and included "The Village Blacksmith" and "The Wreck of the Hesperus", which were instantly popular.
