About This Item
London: Jonathan Cape, 1970. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 8" by 5.5". None. A smart first edition of this great Australian novel written by Patrick White. First edition. The lifelong creative journey of fictional artist and painter Hurtle Duffield. Born to a poor Australian family, adopted by the wealthy Courtneys as a companion for their hunchbacked daughter, Hurtle gains artistic inspiration from the world surrounding him. Written by Patrick White, a British-born Australian writer who was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1973 - the only Australian to have been awarded the prize. He was also the inaugural recipient of the Miles Franklin Award. In the original orange cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is very smart with minor wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine
