Fragile binding somewhat rubbed; frontis a bit browned and stained, with some light scattered foxing throughought; in very good condition.
8vo (8 x 5 inches), original sheep, red leather label, gilt rules and lettering, 258, [12] pages, all edges stained green. Frontispiece portrait.
The early American epic that helped shape the Columbus "discovery" story into part of the evolving national identity, as well as a vision of the new nation's achievements and growth in both commerce and the arts.
The subscription list boasts at its head King Louis XVI of France, Washington, and Lafayette. This copy with leaf K4 excised by the publisher, as seen in a number of copies.
