London: Bradbury & Evans, 1858. A sequel to "Henry Esmond" first published in parts as a serial. Here is a Good only copy, of the First Edition, both volumes bound together. Marbled paper-covered boards, with brown leather tips and spine; five raised bands; titling in gilt on black labels; page-ends are marbled. Clean text; 382 pages and 376 pages. Points for the First Issue. Numerous illustrations by Thackeray. Both volumes have a frontis iiilustration and an illustrated half-title page. Armorial bookplate of William Scott Dalgairn Moncrief (1858-1913), who served in the Zulu and Boer Wars. There is some minor spotting scattered within. Both covers have split at the spine; while holding, the book is fragile. Please note the condition issue; Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of restoration or repair.. First Edition. Quarter-Bound. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
