A two-volume biography of the noted English modernist writer, bound together in a single volume. Vol. 1 describes the life of Virginia Stephen from 1882 to 1912 prior to her marriage to Leonard Woolf, with a section of black & white plates and family tree. Vol. 2 covers the years 1912-1941, with another section of photos and index to both volumes. Each part with appended further writings and chronologies. This work originally published in two separate volumes in the UK by the Hogarth Press. The author, Quentin Bell, was a nephew of Virginia Woolf. Includes author's typed letter, signed (TLS) to Dr. John Hale of Philadelphia, thanking him for his letter praising this work. --- In full brown cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling, blue endpapers. Jacket features photographic portraits of Ms. Woolf to both front and back panels. --- A generally well-preserved copy, but with a different owner's inked signature to front free endpaper and foxing to textblock top edges. Interior tightly-bound and otherwise unmarked. Age-toned, unclipped dust jacket ($12.50) with a few small tears and chips but almost completely intact and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.
