About This Item

Butte, Montana: McKee Printing Co, 1950. Reprint. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo. Pp. 269. Includes a couple black & white photographs, including one of the author, and a fold-out map of Montana. Bound in crimson cloth with lettering stamped on cover. Light white stain on rear board; rear joint with one-inch slit. Leaves a bit age-toned due to inferior paper. First published in 1866, Dimsdale's narrative is the standard, foundational text concerning the lawlessness, capture and execution of Henry Plummer's Road Agent Band. Ramon Adams wrote that "perhaps no other book excels Dimsdale's in presenting the picture of the lawless conditions that characterized the mining camps of the Rocky Mountain country. See Six-Guns, 308.

Synopsis

Being a correct and impartial narrative of the chase, capture, trial and execution of Henry Plummer's Road Agent Band, together with accounts of the lives and crimes of many of the robbers and desperadoes, the whole being interspersed with sketches of life in the mining camps of the 'Far West.'"
