New Haven: Yale University Press, 1962. Near fine in a very good plus jacket.. First edition of Gilbert's debut, the uncommon hardcover issue. Winner of the Yale Younger Poets (Vol. 58), with a foreword by Dudley Fitts. Gilbert's first book, for which he quickly and rightly gained widespread acclaim. Uncommon in the hardcover (issued simultaneously with the paperback), and scarce in this condition. 8" x 5" Original black cloth with gilt spine titles. [14], 43 pages. A trifle rubbed at extremities of book. Jacket has light wear at spine ends, trace toning to edges. A tiny chip and a one-inch closed tear at the top of the front panel.
