London: Printed for T. Snelling, next to Horn Tavern, in Fleet-Street, 1766. Ex-Library First editions. Hardcover. g+ to near fine. Folio. (2) 55 (1), 17 plates, (2) iv, 38, 6 plates, (4) 46, 7 plates, 6pp. Original calf with gilt tooling on spine, gilt lettering on label of spine; raised bands and gilt dentelles. Housed in an orange clamshell box with gilt lettering on spine. Three title pages. Historiated headpieces and initials. Shoulder notes.

1. View of the Silver Coin...: Consider'd with Regards to Type, Legend, Sorts, Rarity, Weight, Fineness and Value. Contains 17 copper plates, five of them folded, with in-text engravings of coins and tables,

2. A View of the Gold Coin...: Consider'd with Regards to Type, Legend, Sorts, Rarity, Weight, Fineness, Value and Proportion. Contains 7 copper plates with in-text engravings and tables.

3. A View of the Copper Coin...: Including The Leaden, Tin and Laton Tokens made by Tradesmen during the Reign of Elizabeth and James I; the Farthing Tokens of James I and Charles I; those of Towns and Corporations under the Commonwealth and Charles II; and the Tin Farthings and Halfpence of Charles II, James II, and William and Mary. Contains 6 copper plates including one of them with two groups and additional in-text engravings and tables.

Six page appendix at rear. The first two titles are attributed to Thomas Snelling whereas he is credited as the author in title three. Snelling authored many treatises on English coins. Though the engravings were coarsely executed they garnered praise for their fidelity. Clamshell box with library barcode at upper left corner of cover. Binding with wear along edges, chips and light scuffing at front and back cover. Spine cracked at joints. Starting at front gutter. Previous owner, Leland W. Carlson, inked to inside front cover. Some age toning at foredge and page 45 of part one with four inch closed tear at middle of foredge. Minor sporadic foxing. Clamshell in near fine, binding in overall good+, interior in very good condition.
