About This Item
New York: Crescent Books, 1983. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Pimlott, a senior lecturer and head of the Department of War Studies and International Affairs at the UK's Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst until his death in 1997, was also a prolific author of books on military history and warfare, including this book in which he served as editor and contributor of one of the book's eight subsections. The book, though relatively short, provides an introduction to the 30-some years of war in Vietnam, beginning with the French and its Indochina colony. It concentrates on U.S. involvement from the late 1950s until withdrawal in 1975 and on military strategy and tactics during this period. There are more than 200 photo illustrations and maps, 75 in full color, as well as a brief bibliography and index. First Edition, Second Printing. About 9 x 11 3/4 inches, 128 pages in blue paper-covered boards with gold-stamped lettering on the spine and blue endpapers. The dustjacket shows a full-cover color photo of U.S. troops exiting a UH-1 helicopter behind red and white lettering, and a full-cover color photo of Khmer Rouge soldiers building a booby trap in a Cambodian forest is on the back panel. Blue and black lettering on the spine. Boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked, not remaindered. No bumping, chipping or creasing. The dustjacket shows just a touch of wear along top edge with light soiling along same edge on the obverse and on dj flaps. No tears, creases or clipped corners. A decent introduction to the military issues of this war.
