Amsterdam: P. & J. Blaeu, 1698. First Edition. Very Good. First Edition in French. Hardcover. Very Good Folio. 717p, [17] index. Engraved title page, title page lettered in black and red, with printer's device, portrait engraving and 8 engraved plates, 7 of which are folding. Full contemporary vellum, with Cambridge style gilt borders to front board and rear, compartments with small gilt stamped designs and title stamped in gilt over a newer [?] piece of vellum laid down over a previous title, perhaps not original to the book, or new title label was added later. Yapp fore-edges. Early paper repair to the front paste-down, light staining to the lower margins, faint staining to top margins from about page 42-200, stain at inner margins p. 69-114 and sporadically throughout. Pages 353-56 with a small cigarette burn. Vellum a little discolored around the edges. Binding is tight and square and the plates are complete and in excellent condition. Overall a very nice copy of this edition.
