About This Item
Santa Barbara: Capra Press, 1977. Number 23 0f 26 sets of etchings each signed by the artist Arthur Secunda, who also signed the colophon. The etchings are interleaved with the text, printed in red. The text is comprised of two parts: one, Pliny's description of the eruption of 79 A. D., and the other written by a member of the French Expeditionary Corps who witnessed an eruption in 1944. The loose sheets are nestled into a depression in the wrap-around box with one of the etchings silk-screeened onto the front cover. This is a specially printed limited set of the etchings and text which were also used in a limited edition book that appeared in 1979. Enclosed in a plexiglass slipcase. Slipcase is 19 1/2 x 16 3/4 inches. 15 pages and 15 etchings. Near fine, with some sunning to one edge of the portfolio. A few scratches on the plexiglass.
