About This Item

[Philadelphia]: [Mathew Carey]. Very Good. [1795]. Map of Vermont engraved for "Carey's American Edition of Guthrie's Geography Improved" from 1795. Map measures 17 ¾" x 14 ¼" and has a decorative cartouche with a hand-colored illustration of a forest scene. Map was at one time folded in half and has archival tape on verso supporting the fold; light foxing and soiling affect content. Amos Doolittle (1754-1832), an American engraver out of New Haven, CT was most well-known for his engravings of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, although he had a very long career publishing hundreds portraits, illustrations and maps. Two copies from 1795 found on OCLC as of November 2018. .
