Study of the Russian artist Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshchagin (1842-1904), who was controversial for his graphic depictions of the horrors of war and the actions of the British in India. Text entirely in Russian. 394pp with index and chronology, illustrated with black and white photographs and tipped-in colour plates. Colour reproduction glued to top board with gilt title above. Title page and publication data missing, page 13/14 detached but present, some bumping to corners and slight marking to boards and edges, otherwise fair/good copy with no inscriptions.
