About This Item

London: Michael Joseph, 1969. This First Edition of the first part of H.E. Bates' three-volume autobiography is in Fine condition with a Fine unclipped dust jacket (click on photo). I would rate it As New, except it has the discreet embossment of a former owner on the front free endpaper. Bates concentrates on the years between 1908, when he first went to school, and 1926, when he was twenty and had his first novel published. The book is bound in a blue cloth with die-stamped gilt spine lettering. I've placed the dust jacket into a Brodart protective sleeve. This volume is a delightful collectible for H.E. Bates admirers and includes a dust jacket illustration and charming pen-and-ink illustrations throughout by John Ward. The book measures 6 1/4 by 9 1/4 inches. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. Illus. by John Ward. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
