A very smart first edition of this beautiful collection of images commemorating the lost Flemish architecture of the First World War. First edition. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, pictorial title page, and twenty-nine plates, many of which are in full colour. Collated complete. A commemoration of the lost Flemish architecture of the First World War, with images of Porte de Bruxelles, The Belfry, Arcade of Cloth Hall, the museum, the cathedral, and much more. With descriptions of the buildings and areas, as well as information on the battles which destroyed them. Written and illustrated by George Wharton Edwards, an American impressionist painter and illustrator. In the original green cloth with gilt. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Minor fading to the spine and a small mark to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
