An unforgettable and informative story of the world and its people from five continents--over 150 typical Van Loon illustrations/maps, 38 in color and wash. Binding of red cloth with a paper illustration in color affixed to the front panel, gilt titles to spine. Very clean and unmarked, with tight and solid sewn binding, inner hinge cracked. Endpaper leaf loose from binding. Edges rubbed. Rough cut. Frontispiece illustration "The Will to Live". Title page with FACSIMILE Hendrik Willem Van Loon signature. Internals very clean and completely unmarked. NOTE: Unfold the wrapper and you will find a map of the world drawn by Hendrik Willem Van Loon--quite fabulous even if not in perfect condition Dust Jacket in two pieces within the protective sleeve . The jacket folds out into twice the size with a map in color--also in pieces put quite interesting and unique.
