New York: The Jackson Press, 1916. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. First American Edition, First printing.. New York: The Jackson Press, 1916. First American Edition, First printing. Near Fine/Very Good+. Scarce First American Edition in clean original jacket with price intact on spine (1.25 net). Decorated American trade binding, with winged red vampire atop a naked long-haired woman, his claws piercing her breasts and dripping blood down into the title box. Very clean gray cloth boards with red and black lettering and decoration on cover, red lettering on spine. No fraying or wear. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean, with clean endpapers; no names, writing or marks. Translated from the German with a Preface by George Chatterton-Hill. 225 pages. Clean dust jacket has 1/16" or less chipping at top spine edge, tiny chip at base of spine (1/16" depth), a few tiny edge nicks. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. For the collector of rare decorated American publisher's bindings or of scarce and unusual history books, this is a gem. A book written by a German Count during World War I, it proposes that England is to blame for all of Europe's woes (and many of the world's), that she is a greedy and self-serving vampire draining the life blood out of Europe, Ireland, and other countries on far-flung continents..

New York: The Jackson Press, 1917. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Second American edition. Translated by George Chatterton-Hill. Pictorial cloth. Light dampstain at the bottom of the text pages, thus about very good in very good pictorial dustwrapper with a corresponding stain, some small chips, and some very near professional reinforcement of the folds. Not about vampires at all, but a polemic attempting to demonstrate the insatiable greed of Great Britain for Empire. However, the striking illustration on both the front board and repeated on the dustwrapper, of a winging vampire sinking its claws into a nude woman, is among our favorites. We've never seen the book in jacket before.
