Octavo, pp. [1-6] 7-92 [93] [94: colophon] [95: ad] [96: blank], 16 inserted plates with lithograph illustrations by Wassili Masjutin, title page printed in green and black, original decorated tan cloth, front panel stamped in black, spine panel stamped in black and gold, top edge stained black, other edges untrimmed, black endpapers. First German edition. Short vampire novel translated into German by Arthur Luther. Tolstoi's "Upyr," published in 1841 under the pseudonym "Krasnorogsky," introduced the vampire into Russian literature. Bloch (2002) 3129. Several tiny spots to cloth on front cover, a very good, internally fine copy. (#135112)
