Northbrook, Illinois: Jack Mathis Advertising, 1975 & 1995. First Edition. Two volumes. Printed in a edition of 2000 copies, this is the landmark study of motion picture serials produced from the 1930s through 1950s by Republic Pictures. This massive 10 pound book, 12 by 17 1/2 inches, is hardbound in gilt-stamped leatherette still in its original shipping carton from the publisher. 448 pages printed on coated stock and is illustrated with over 2000 black and white photographs. The supplement volume was produced 20 years later and contains an illustrated chapter-by-chapter synopsis of each film episode, Illustrated largely with frame enlargements from the serials. The second supplementary volume contains credits and other production and release information along with a synopsis of each chapter for all Republic serials. Illustrated primarily with frame enlargements from the serials. Both books in lovely fine condition. An amazing labor of love, this set is considered one of the finest works produced dealing with an area of motion pictures in this case motion picture serials which directly influenced and set the blueprints for the Star Wars and Indiana Jones film franchises.
