About This Item
Los Angeles: Utopian Society of America, 1934. Pamphlet. 12-panel folded brochure, rather worn with some staining. Also included is a four-panel brochure, "Applicant's examination for membership in the Utopian Society," creased and mildly soiled, with a rubberstamp of the Oakland office. Born out of the depression and the cultural milieu of Southern California, the Utopian Society was a semi-secret organization whose goals, as outlined in Glendon's speech, are high-minded but lacking in practical detail.
