USPS Special Limited Commemorative Edition of Action Comics No. 1 – The first appearance of Superman, June, 1938

In order to commemorative the first appearance of Superman in the June, 1938 issue of Action Comics, the United States Postal Service issued a commemorative 32 cent Superman postage stamp on September 10, 1998. Associated with the stamp's first day issuance, the USPS published a Special Limited Edition of Action Comics #1 and released it in Cleveland, Ohio, the home of Superman's creators, Jerome Siegel and Joe Shuster.

This special edition of Action Comics #1 is enclosed in a USPS wrapper that covers half the front cover and the whole back cover. On the front half-cover is pasted one of the newly-issued 32 cent Superman stamps (above the words First Day of Issue). The back cover has some text that warns the reader that since this special edition is an exact reprint of the June 1938 original publication, any advertisements shown have long expired.

The comic book, which measures approximately 6 ½ x 10 ¼ inches, has Superman as its lead story. It also faithfully shows a number of other comic stories, features, and advertisements as they appeared in 1938. The issue is in as new condition.
